Poem: “Why Do You Need To View Me This Way?”

Image has been provided by the author

Why do you need to,
View me this way,
Can you just,
Not take a glance at my body?
Not be this gaudy?

They say, “You’re pretty”,
They say, “We love you”,
Yet they are the ones,
Who abandoned you,
Forgetting what they said to you once.

Hey, don’t let them tell you,
Of what you are worth,
You’re a gazillion dollars, love
Go in front of a mirror,
Let your eyes twinkle with mirth.

Be kind to yourself,
Listen to your body, she needs you,
Why don’t you embrace it?
It belongs to you,
Let that smile come through.

Why are you chasing?
After the body that society defined for you?
You define beauty yourself,
It’s just an illusion,
To take a look at everyone else.

Why do you want to,
Draw my physique,
Why can’t you, instead,
Take a piece of my heart,
And stop these tears to shed.

The body of your dreams,
Is the body you currently own,
Your home, your crown,
Cease the process of running after it,
Glorify thyself, a bit!

Her acne, her rolls,
Her chaffing thighs,
Her cellulite,
With them, why are you at war?
When all that exists is, beauty galore.

Note: A message to all the people out there who are in constant war with how their bodies look, you’re beautiful. You are so much more than just a body, embrace yourself, idolise yourself for who you are, not who society has made you into.  Your body does far more for you than their opinions ever will. You got this. You’re perfect just the way you are.
