‘No such thing as a life that’s better than yours’ says, Jermaine Cole known as J. Cole an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer) in one of his songs called ‘LOVE YOURZ,’ The song is J.Cole talking about how nothing more is important than YOU, nothing in the world is better than the life you have. He says, there is always gonna be a car that’s better than the one you got, always gonna be clothes that’s fresher than the ones you got, always gonna be a house that’s bigger than the one you got. But you’ll never be happy till you love your life, yourself. He talks about being complacent in life and having gratitude.
Now, why am I talking about this song? Because this has been my ultimate healer, whenever I get low, this song always helps me comprehend my emotions and hits too close to my heart. He says ‘life can’t always be a fairy tale, no once upon a time’ meaning it’s not always gonna be easy, the life that you have, you’re gonna experience a lot of different things, it ain’t always the highs, but the lows too. So when everything goes down, you just got to hold on and be thankful to breathe and exist.
Sometimes just ‘breathing’ is enough. We are our own worst critics, we’ll take one moment to dismiss every single thing we’ve achieved in life and bash ourselves, but it’s only human. Ain’t it? We learn we evolve, we mess up, we are a lot of things, the only limit to our potential is the one we set for ourselves. We can be absolutely anything that we want to be, only if we learn to love and appreciate and respect ourselves, Put ourselves on top. The priority should always be YOU. The only way to be happy and achieve everything that you want is by ‘LOVING YOURSELF TO THE FULLEST’
Now how does one love ourself, when the world constantly tells us, otherwise, where putting ourselves on top is called being ‘selfish’. Where every day we get to hear something or the other that is wrong with us, people trying to put us in a box, smash us with their expectations. It can be tough, but you got to realize that the people who truly love you would want you to be blooming with happiness, and happiness? Well that lies within you, all you got to do is, find it, look for it. It’s right there in YOU. You might think you’d be happy if you have more money, or your ideal partner, or in the materialistic things, but even if you get all of that and aren’t content with yourself, it wouldn’t mean anything at all.
‘Heart beating fast, let a man know that he’s alive’ is what Cole screams at the beginning of the song. Even in my worst moods, the fact that I’m breathing and alive gets me going. You might think it’s just a song, but for me, it’s been my healer, my escape from reality, my antidepressant.
In the end, to all my fellow buddies reading this, just remember that you’re stronger than whatever’s bringing you down, YOU are enough. Never lose hope, never give up, because your life is precious, and when you don’t feel like it, take my advice wear your headphones, close your eyes and play ‘LOVE YOURZ- by J.COLE.
