Who Is Responsible For The Fate Of Girls — Parents, Their Mindset Or Society?

“You surely haven’t tasted the pain of restricted smiles.”

Do you really think that the 21st century has changed the mindset of society? The moment a baby is born, the first question that comes to one’s mind is “a boy or a girl?”

Our parents belong to a part of society that still believes in ideas that women should be in control otherwise “ladki haath se nikal jaayegi.” Sadly, it is common for Indian parents to control the lives of their daughters. Although some parents are liberal enough, others continue to control what their daughter should wear, whom she should befriend, course she should pursue; when the clock strikes the evening hour, it becomes necessary for the daughter to come home.

All these things are decided by the parents. This mindset of our society compels a girl to care off and think: “Is she standing by the side of a boy, is it okay to talk to a guy openly?” It is wrong to say that this is entirely the parent’s fault because it is also the male-dominated society that is also equally responsible for the restrictions imposed on women. Parents need to change them with changing times.

A parent or child lives in the same house with the feeling of separation — a separation of the mindset, understanding, opinions and of togetherness.

So who is responsible for this — the parent, their mindset or society?
