Now, when we talk about rapes, sexual assaults we also should know that there is one thing that is used in different countries to ensure women’s safety, which is known as ARD (Anti Rape Device).

What Is ARD (Anti-Rape Device)?

There are a variety of devices to prevent/ stop forceful physical contact but as of 2017, none of them are in commercial production. You can check out a video on YouTube by going on the Brut channel for knowing the mechanism and backstory of this device.

This device is a female condom, which is applied to the reproductive parts and this device ensures that as soon as the perpetrator tries to touch or harass, this will bite back and the girl will be saved easily. This device is praised a lot. But we don’t hear much about the production of this device in our country.

Devices Allowed For Protection Against Rape

There are many devices invented in the US and some in other countries but most of the devices are not considered in India. So, the anti-rape devices are not a very welcomed product where it’s needed the most.

Inventions By India’s Students For Protection Against Rape

Student researchers in Chennai, India had invented an anti-rape device that protects women from sexual assaults. To know more about the mechanism of the device. You can visit the SRM institute of science and technology’s website, Check it out.

Changes In Laws (Criminal Law Amendment Act) After The 2012 Nirbhaya Case

The most important change after this incident was changing the definition of ‘rape’ in India under IPC. The age of consent in India has been increased to 18 years. This indicates any sexual activity performed against any girl below 18 years will constitute statutory rape.

What Do Indian Ministers Think About Rape?

There has been a lot of ‘unfortunate’ remarks on rapes made by the politicians in India. To know more about this, you can visit the BBC News website.

Society On Rape

Society is concerned about rapes, but they think the only reason rapes take place is because of girls. So, girls get misunderstand and then get jailed in their own house. There is a lot to develop now. Because of this, many girls themselves don’t feel like going outside and prefer staying indoors.

Who Is At Fault?

India has normalized rape and sexual assault and blames the victim for it.

Facts-Sexual assault is NEVER the victim’s fault and nobody ‘asks’ for it. It is very humiliating and degrading for the victim and the victim’s family. So, for sure the blame should be on the men who committed it, this is such a known factor but still, some people keep questioning the victim for it, even after a clear ‘No’. There is no such thing as ‘ men can do this or men’s intention can “slip” sometimes, it’s just some people who commit this thinks women are not as human or someone who deserves respect but a “property” or “toy” which can be misused and destroyed anytime.

Not all men are guilty and are blamed for this act. There are a lot of people who understand and respect humanity. But for some, judicial inquiry and strict actions are required.

Let’s take a pledge to make this country a better place by understanding the suppressed gender’s problems by not forgetting others. By equally loving and respecting everyone’s life and choices.
