Life Vs Livelihood: How The Pandemic Year Went For Me

The past year has been very tough for most of us. I was not an exception, though I am still thankful to God for being kind enough as there are people who suffered a lot more compared to me.

After taking the first dose of the vaccine, I became unwell (I had a fever for a few days) and had to be hospitalised due to viral fever but I recovered after a few days of treatment. After that, I got a job offer in September but since it required me to visit the office daily, I couldn’t continue with it. I was scared for the safety of myself as well as my family due to the covid infection and even not able to tolerate the long commute and working hours after being idle and out of work confined to home for more than a year.

It was a tough choice either to save my career or my life and live on my savings. I chose the latter. This is how the previous year went by. At first, I regretted my decision and felt guilty about leaving my job (that I had got after a long time) but when the virus made a reappearance by year-end (Nov ’21), I felt my caution was worthy.

But I hope I never have to make a choice like this ever in my life and we can freely choose what we want to do and live our lives fearlessly. I think this is every person’s wish for this year that is a healthier and happier year!
