A new variant of the Coronavirus, Omicron, has spread alarmingly in the US. More than one million patients were identified in the country in a span of 24 hours, on Monday (January 3, 2021).
The number of patients identified on Monday is almost double their previous highest record. Around 10.82 lakh new cases were identified. About four days ago, approximately 5.9 lakh patients were identified in the US.
During the spread of the Delta variant, 4.14 lakh patients were identified in a day, in India, on May 8, 2o21. It made for the highest number of cases ever identified in a one-day period, outside the US.
