Protests across Europe on lockdowns being imposed in different pockets of the continent have stirred the sentiments and passions of the people alike, with France’s Emmanuel Macron snubbing all those who have been at the forefront of the campaign with most of the Europeans vaccinated with both the doses bluntly refusing to wear masks amidst the spread of the Omicron variant.

Though the native population has every right to express and articulate its opinions and ideas, adhering to the guidelines won’t make them lesser citizens of their republic for maintaining all the necessary precautions and preventions against a virus that is more contagious than the previous variants is not an illegitimate discretion.

In this regard, their respective governments should come out with an advisory briefing them on do’s and don’ts, which, if thoroughly observed, will boost their spirits high. However, it shouldn’t be coercive but still make all those liable for sanctions knowingly defying them, as with the scientific community still tackling responses for this mutant leading to a shortage of adequate medical facilities and supplies. Both citizens and state should come on board for wider consultation, consensus, deliberation and dialogue on the range of pointers responsible for such a circumstance and situation rather than suspecting and doubting each other’s motive for the worst as the pandemic knows no borders, boundaries and beliefs.
