Students In Kolkata Debated The Impact Of The Pandemic On Jobs

Covid-19 cannot stop the traditional workforce, but it created a new form of work, workplace and workforce. What young India expects from the industry was addressed by the recent eastern regional debate organised by the National Institute of Personnel Management (NIPM) on May 28, 2022.

We may have been disrupted, perhaps to an extent divided, but not deadthis is the kind of message that was reflected in the eastern India regional conference of the NIPM. It consisted of eminent human resource (HR) professionals who expressed their views on “remapping organisational boundaries”.

It began with an inaugural session where Dr Partha Chatterjee, West Bengal’s minister for industries, commerce and enterprise, addressed the august gathering.

The event continued with a series of interesting, technical sessions about “demystifying the myth about workplace” and “HR strategies to lead workforce transformation”.

Young debaters from reputed business schools in Kolkata like the Heritage Business School, Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan, IQ City United World School of Business, and the Army Institute of Management, battled it out in the debate session.

With a war of words, amidst a packed audience, they challenged their opponents and drove home the message that Covid-19 may have dampened our spirits to an extent, but it could not kill the traditional workforce.

Thus, people from a young and vibrant India are looking forward to be back at their workstations as soon as possible, in a full-fledged manner.

The moderating panel comprised of Jaidip Chatterjee, chief human resources officer at SREI; together with an eminent jury, which consisted of Dipankar Dasgupta, director of IISWBM and ex chairman of the Public Service Commission, government of West Bengal; and Vishwesh Kulkarni, national president of the NIPM.

The jury members had a tough time deciding who was better from the best, and eventually votes went in the favour of the Heritage Business School. It was declared as the winner! The team was led by MBA students Asna Fatma Oosman and Mohammed Arsalan Aftar, who took home the winner’s trophy!
