India Might Be Free, But LGBTQIA+ Indians Are Not

Today is the day when flags will be hoisted; today is the day when independence will be celebrated. But are we really free? Or is it some blathery? Transgender people are being harassed everyday. And, people are getting killed for being gay.

Love has no gender, it is even greater! Gender is a spectrum, and so, it is above the sex of a person. Then why are LGBTQIA+ marriages not legal yet? Why do we have to live in this predicament?

So, this is the free India for you, you say? They say that Section 377 is no more. So, why do you want your marriages to be legalized? I say people are getting killed just because they want to get married to whom they love or like.

Are we really free? We are not even allowed to any be in rented apartments or apply for job vacancies! Families still harass their children freely… Just because: we love someone or of our identity. Let me ask you, are we really free? We are only existing, you see.

What do you think LGBTQIA+ Indians need in order to feel fully free in their own country?
