Meta On The Agenda With Security Steps Focused On Facebook And WhatsApp

Meta is on the agenda with security steps focused on Facebook and WhatsApp. The company is dealing with many security risks.

Meta, an umbrella company, came to the agenda today with two important security-oriented developments. First, the company sued the developers of applications that stole more than 1 million WhatsApp accounts in total. It is reported that these unofficial WhatsApp-oriented Android applications spread both in APK form and through the Play Store. Meta has long advised people not to install the WhatsApp app outside the Play Store or official sites. However, there are still some people using such apps.

The second announcement made today was bigger when compared to the WhatsApp development. Meta stated that they have identified more than 400 Android and iOS apps that steal Facebook login credentials. Stating that they have removed these apps from the official app stores in partnership with Apple and Google, Meta said that these malicious apps disguise themselves as photo editors, games, VPN services, business apps and other utilities.

In this infrastructure, people download, for instance, a photo app for their needs, but the main purpose of this app is to steal Facebook login credentials. Stating that users are especially targeted through malicious photo apps, Meta shares almost all of these apps in the list they have prepared here.

These apps, which are listed by name and thought to have been downloaded more than 1 million times in total, are not currently in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. However, if they are installed, they need to be manually deleted from the phones. If you have installed one of these apps and logged in with your Facebook account, you need to change your login details immediately.
