Nisha Ranjan Case: A Deception That Took Away A Smiling Daughter

TW- Mentions Of Murder

Life… as many see it, is of course short… this is because many don’t live it to the fullest and the other unfortunates don’t get to live it. I have most recently been in acknowledgement of a case that raised a number of questions in my mind… When did we come so far in our conviction of taking over the world that we forgot we don’t decide the survival of others?

When did we become so deaf amidst mechanical noise, that we ignored the screams of our neighbors?

When did we become so blind in rat race, that we overlooked the needs of our loved ones?

When did we become so strong, that our hearts materialized into metal?

It breaks my heart to see our world limiting to our individual lives. So, in the spirit of bringing a change to this monotonicity and reviving the humanity which I know resides within all of us. I am sharing a poignant story of a daughter like your princess, a sister like your annoying playmate, a friend like your bestie, a sweetheart like your wife…. a girl like me.

Through this blog, I want to not only raise a voice which with your support can transform into a roar. I want to highlight the culprits and bring their names into light because of two reasons: –

1- This story is not unique, I give you that. But I believe the moment we invest ourselves in understanding the reasons behind such acts we may be able to stop them one day, because we might be a populous state but every life counts.

Just like you I have also heard of many such news, and I’ve seen them disappearing into a puddle of spicy juicy gossips in a matter of days, but in cases 8 out of 10. I don’t see the names ¬¬of culprits criminalized as boldly as they should, let alone tarnished.

2- We, as a society have accepted such cases as a part of our lives and their gravity doesn’t strike us until we are directly involved in one. And why do you think one becomes a victim? Because when the same case happens with somebody else in a different part of the globe, we don’t bother weighing its relevance and practicality in our lives, leaving ourselves vulnerable and unimmunized to such cases.

So, this post is dedicated to one such person like you and me…Nisha Ranjan.

Nisha Ranjan was brutally murdered at the hands of her husband who once vowed to be her protector. She was devoid of any happiness that married life offers and left at her parents’ place shortly after her marriage because she chose to fight for her right to be treated fairly in her matrimonial alliance with Harish Ranjan s/o Prof Abhyanand Suman. Only to be coerced to go back with him for being able to face the society, knowing well about the extra marital affair of her husband with a married gym trainer, which ultimately resulted in her pre -meditated murder, and an attempt at evidence destruction.

This heart wrenching case that involved extortion of money in the name of dowry, violence and betrayal has added immensely to yet another nightmare and the repulsion of today’s youth towards marriage. Because the harm caused is not just social and its impact did not die with just the victim.

Cases like these happen because girls are forced to keep accepting these atrocities for the sake of family’s name.

And they end up falling victim in their effort of evading societal shame.

This case shook me and added to my fear of a marital alliance with someone I’ll barely know,

And I can’t stop thinking if they would be as pleasant as they would eventually show.

What if I don’t pick up the signs until it’s too late?

What if the society asks me to accept it as my ultimate fate?
