Rahul Gandhi Sentenced To 2 Years In Prison: Defamation Or A Mere Distraction?

The prominent congress leader was held guilty of criminal defamation and was sentenced upto two years in jail by a Surat court in 2019. What is more surprising is that 2 years of imprisonment for a criminal defamation has always been rare , but why is it now that he has been convicted? Is there something more that is silently being brushed under the carpet? The novelty of the Hindenburg report slowly started fading away as time passed by and now the conviction of Rahul Gandhi definitely makes this whole story look a little dubious. Besides the Hindenburg report , Rahul Gandhi also talked about the problematic market share that Adani holds in airport and the defense sector.

The B.J.P. government has kept itself muted to date and never made any effort to advocate itself. Not just the Hindenburg report but various other sources put the present government under question. Be it the Prime Minister’s visit to Israel and the immediate aftermath of it resulting in Adani enterprise receiving the contracts for the arms deal in Israel or the PM’s visit to Bangladesh, which again astoundingly resulted in the Adani enterprise receiving the electricity contract for the next 50 years. The Ceylon electricity board’s head MMC Ferdinando once claimed before a parliamentary committee in Sri Lanka that Prime Minister Modi influenced the then President Rajapaksa to award a wind power project to the Adani Group. Ferdinando later resigned as the Head and withdrew the statement. This whole situation was murky though no one debated it. Though the very much controversial LIC and SBI’s heavy investments in the Adani group did receive some backlash, it is heavily mortifying on the part of the government to have been so recklessly indistinct. In a democracy, we, the people, choose our Prime Minister, who is expected to be self-standing and consideration of the nation’s interests. Still, it brings an utter disgrace to the nation when the free-thinking of the leader of the nation falls into the hands of one covetous businessman. The sad part is that the gravitas of this issue is being undermined. This problem isn’t limited to one class or group. The taxpayers will be hit additionally by the indirect exposure of the LIC or the state-owned banks. This type of crony capitalism mainly thrives in developing countries, the ravenous politicians never letting go of any opportunity that will hand them a good amount of money. However, there is still hope, and only public vigilance can sustain the pressure intact on the government and make it an accountable body as it should be.
