Himachal Showdown

Congress lost steam in Himachal Pradesh despite of having a comfortable majority in the assembly as more than six legislators cross voted for BJPs Harsh Mahajan in the Rajya sabha polls. Despite having a tie with thirty four votes each for a lone RS seat, Congress veteran and former union minister Abhishek Manu Singhvi lost in the lottery round.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu has blamed BJP for engineering defection and poaching it’s handful of legislators to Haryana luring them with economic incentives and financial benefits.

At best these are accusations and charges that are yet to be substantiated but one thing is clear that it has almost become a pattern and routine for BJP to destabilize opposition governments especially Congress where ever it sees an occasion and opportunity to serve its vested interests.

Op Lotus is but a manifestation of this pride which they wear on their sleeves flaunting not sparing anyone challenging their might and will as over the past few years every effort has been made to not let opposition gain an upper hand- politically and otherwise both inside and outside the house for a free run that has made the ruling regime an escape route.

Recent Supreme Court judgement in the Chandigarh mayoral elections and electoral bonds was enough to show mirror to the new non Vajpayee BJP as they continuingly mock and ridicule the system exploiting it further and further with an intention to make it crumble and collapse.

Becoming more presidential than prime ministerial today’s BJP lacks the aura, affability, content and charm which were the hallmarks of a Bhartiya Janta Party when it had actually taken its wings under the mentorship of Vajpayee and Advani founding fathers and stalwarts of this party who were guiding lights for a party adopting cultural nationalism than a Gandhian socialism that didn’t wasn’t far fetching.

However, the way it’s transacting it’s political and electoral content and conduct can have implications as breaking legislators from other parties and engaging them with their formation is simply a tool to deny their dedicated committed cadres a chance for public office.

Rather, those with influence, networking and liasoning are eating into their slice of pie from Ashok Chavan to Scindia there isn’t left much for those who have toiled hard being with BJP being looked after, sidelined and isolated they appear to be on the receiving end not showcasing and reflecting their emotions and expressions publically there isn’t much that is left for them at the first place except for pleading their case collectively. Patiently need to look at what future holds out for them as for their obedience and loyalty which should have paid for them.
