What is the Digital Masala Challenge?

We are experiencing a tumultuous period of global divisiveness today, which is driving violent extremism and hate. The rampant spread of misinformation has also made it easier for violent extremists to dehumanise and disconnect people from one another. Sponsored by Facebook and organised by Youth Ki Awaaz, the hackathon aims to counter just this and do it as effectively as it can.

The challenge: Come up with a tech or non-tech solution to counter violent extremism online. The winning team gets publicity, ad credits and $5000 to support their idea.

Hackathon dates:

17 - 18 November

9 - 10 December

18 - 19 December

Last dates to send in entries:
Mumbai: 10th November | Kochi: 20th November | Kolkata: 30th November

The Digital Masala Challenge is a creative competition sponsored by Facebook where five teams will compete to produce a tech or non-tech solution to counter violent extremism, and reconnect communities. The solution could be in the form of an app, a bot, a social media campaign, or anything else - which can effectively counter violent extremism and its impact can be measured.
