Malnutrition in India is a human rights issue.
India is home to 194.6 million malnourished people, the highest in the world*. When it comes to nutrition, not all sections of society in India are equal. According to the NFHS – 4 survey report (2015-16), those belonging to Adivasi, SC and ST communities are the most deprived of nutrition. Prevalence of stunting, wasting, underweight and anaemia, too are highest among marginalised groups.
Last year, the Narendra Modi-led government launched the Poshan Abhiyaan or National Nutrition Mission, to tackle the issue. But progress has been slow. As the Poshan Abiyaan works towards making India malnutrition-free by 2022, send us your thoughts and solutions on how India can achieve its nutrition targets.
