Using a menstrual cup for the first time can feel a bit intimidating, but it’s a great, eco-friendly alternative to traditional menstrual products. With practice, it becomes comfortable and easy to use. Here’s a simple, step-by-step guide to help you get started.
– Before using the cup, sterilize it by boiling it in water for 5-10 minutes. Wash your hands thoroughly and make sure the cup is clean and dry before insertion.
Fold the cup into a "C" or "punch-down" shape to make insertion easier. Find a comfortable position, such as squatting or putting one leg up on a surface. Gently insert the folded cup into your vagina, angling it toward your tailbone.
– Once the cup is inside, let it open up fully. Rotate it slightly to ensure it has created a seal. The cup should sit lower than a tampon, but you shouldn’t be able to feel it. If it feels uncomfortable, you might need to readjust or reinsert it.
To remove, gently pull on the stem until you can reach the base. Pinch the base to break the seal, and slowly remove the cup. Empty its contents, rinse it with water, and reinsert or store it for later use.
Using a menstrual cup for the first time may take a little practice, but once you get the hang of it, you’ll find it convenient and cost-effective. Make sure to clean it properly and replace it every few years as needed. Happy cycling!
