Know About Construction and Features of Flexible Cables

Best of Electricals

Flexible cables are electrical cables that are specially manufactured to cope with tight bending radii and stress associated with the moving applications e.g. inside cable carriers. Owing to the increasing demand in industry of automation, these highly flexible items were developed with matchless features, which made it different from other usual cables. They are also called ‘continuous flex’, ‘high flex’ and ‘chain suitable’ cables. High level of flexibility signifies that its life will be quite long and thus, there is no need to change it for a very long time. A normal cable usually manages 50,000 cycles whereas a flexible one can easily manage around 3 million cycles.

Construction of Wire

Several types of materials and compounds are used to manufacture varied kinds of flexible wires such as bare copper, tinned copper, PVC, FRLS, FR, LSZH, etc. Flexible cables are of two types and the first one in which conductors are stranded in layers inside cable and the second; that have braided or bundled conductors. Let us have a quick discussion about both the types in detail.

Stranded in Layers – This type is easier to manufacture and, therefore less expensive. It is enclosed in tube shaped jacket and stranded wires are layered around the center at relative length. Cores of shielded wires are covered with fleece or foil.

Stranded in Bundles – The bundled flexible cables are constructed uniquely that makes it more durable. They are manufactured with the help of technique where braided conductors are placed around tension proof center. Elimination of extra layers offers uniform radius bend to every conductor utilized in it. To avoid cores from untwisting, outer jacket is used. For braided cables, pressure filled jacket is better than extruded one since filling prevents wires from untwisting.

Available Sizes

Distinct sizes of cables and wires are being offered for the customers to fit every type of requirement such as size of house wires are from 0.5 sq mm to 6 sq mm, multi core wires (2 cores to 24 cores) are from 0.5 sq mm to 400 sq mm, singles core flexible wires are 0.5 sq mm to 1000 sq mm, building cables are from 0.5 sq mm to 6 sq mm and as per customer’s need.

Referred Standards

Standards are prepared for the manufacturers to help them standardizing the product range, minimize rejection of cable and thereby to control cost and economy. Referred standards for flexible cables are BS:7211, BS:6500, BWS:7655 and BS:6004 and IS:694.

What Characteristics Do They Have?

There are numerous special features that flexible cable has and due to which, customers prefer to buy flexible cables. Most of them are listed below:

Where to Buy From?

Many electrical shops are present in market where you can have any type of electrical product. But to use such stores, you need to physically go there that require a whole lot of time. Nowadays, we all are completely occupied and do not have free time to personally go to store to buy the stuff we need. This is the reason; it is advised to purchase best flexible cables online that is done by maximum consumers today. In modern era, all of us want to save time so that the saved hours can be used to do some other constructive work. That is why; using websites prove to be beneficial for us.
