When our economy is currently facing major job cuts in different sectors, there’s yet another issue where the students are finding it hard to secure their placements. In February 2019, around 400 students from several colleges received placement in several multi-national companies including Wipro, TCS, ICICI Bank, Tech Mahindra, and more. But even after they got their joining letter, they are unable to report to work on the concerned date. The reason is that they have not not cleared their final examinations, because the university hasn’t conducted their examinations so far.
Students’ Demands Ignored
Getting a placement on the basis of one’s own efforts is really a difficult task and getting placed in an MNC is a bigger challenge. For Bihar being the state it is, there are very less chances of getting placed anyway. Even some students who secured jobs through the campus placements of Cimage College, were even unable to join!
The university officials have neither confirmed any date and nor they are likely to take the examination soon. This is the struggle of final year students of the session 2016-19 whose examination was supposed to conducted in between March-April. But there seem to no sign of getting it conducted, even in the month of September.
After receiving the official joining letter from Wipro, TCS, ICICI Bank, many students couldn’t attend work. The university is located in Bodh Gaya, so the students have to travel across places to get their voices heard. But the university officials gave false promises and outright ignored their concerns.
One among the highest positions of the Vocational Department even commented on the students when their paths crossed in Bodh Gaya. This is not the first time it happened; it keeps happening. Students are always ignored and comments passed on them by the administration is a common issue to hear. The state encourages students and provides support, but at the same time, the university officials treat students this way!
What Was Promised
The vocational course promises corporate exposure and industry-specific knowledge, but sadly, the students never get the chance to obtain the same. They could never join any summer internship programmes because during every summer, their exams are always on hold! The university does not care about it. It’s not a surprise to see that the university has never taken a single initiative towards providing real corporate world experiences.
“We never got chance to do our internships as we never had the freedom from the university’s side. We were often kept engaged with delay in examination from the first year only. The situation is so that we only pray of successfully completing our course and nothing more than that. And now see we are waiting for a long time for examination,” the students said.
The students were so tense about their examination and course completion, that they could never do anything more than a simple graduation course. And even after not having the experience of an internship, when they crack the interviews and get placed, their achievement is guillotined by such delays.
As the last option, the students decided to present this major issue of their career in front of the Governor. They have together submitted their application which has been accepted by the Governor’s Secretariat. Local media officials have tried their best to give spaces to this issue. They have supported us students a lot.
Now, we wish that our voices reach the officials so that they conduct the examination. We are trying our best to shape our career. At last, we would like to say that if students come together for genuine reasons then it will be impossible to leave their voices unheard. Students should not remain silent about this and have the courage to protest before it is too late.
