Quick Byte: Ramachandra Guha Detained By Bengaluru Police

In the latest development of the Bangalore protests against CAA, historian Ramachandra Guha was detained while participating in a protest.

Despite the levying of Section 144 since last evening, a crowd had gathered at Puttanna Chetty Town Hall, to continue their protest against the Citizenship law.

According to Guha he wasdetained by the police for holding a poster of Gandhi and speaking about the constitution to the press’. As can be seen in the video, he was physically pulled away by the police and but into a bus with detained protestors even before he could finish his sentence.

In a statement, Bangalore police chief Bhaskar Rao asked people to not “mar daily life”  in an “international destination where people had come from different parts of the country and world to study and do economic activities”. 

Today, around 30 protestors were detained by police. Some senior officers were seen taking away flags and placards from protestors.

The implementation of Section 144, yesterday had angered protestors even more, yet Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa stood by his decision statingThe Congress is behind protests against CAA.”; threatening them of consequences if they continued. He added that taking care of Muslims was their responsibility and requested the public to maintain peace.
