Renewable energy is the energy produced from renewable sources like wind, turbines, sunlight, tides and geothermal energy.
Some of the renewable energy sources are:
- Solar energy
- Wind energy
- Tidal energy
- Geothermal energy
- Mixing ethanol with petrol reduces emission
Switching to renewable energy will help reduce overall emissions in the country. These sources can last forever and are not in danger of being overused.
But why is it necessary that we should use renewable energy?
- About 13% of the global population still lack modern electricity, and worst is Africa with 738 million people lack without access to electricity.
- Creating electricity or energy using coal is the major contributor accounting to 60% of greenhouse emissions.
- Indoor air pollution caused 4.3 million deaths in 2012.
But there are some drawbacks to renewable energy such as:
- It can be used only for small scale use
- To build a plant, we need to clear a large area of land.
- Solar energy can only be accessed when there is sunlight.
Yes, renewable energy is a distant dream, but not an impossible dream. We must hope that we could achieve it because we have to save our planet. The Madhya Pradesh government has set up a solar power plant in the state recently—a positive step in this direction!
