Hyderabad Council Polls At A Glance

Well, except for BJP’s meteoric rise, there are not many takeaways from these Municipal Council elections. Or would we want to delve into details? Well, why not if it involves our curiosity? How was it that the BJP put up a brilliant and brave fight coming closer to clinching this battle from the TRS (Telangana Rashtra Samithi)?

In a way, they were successful by pushing Owaisi’s AIMIM to third place. Was it because people were tired with enough of KCR’s welfare populism in the last year and a half due to its incapability in curbing the spread of Covid-19 pandemic in the state?

So what if the TRS stokes Telugu pride and patriotism by being the torchbearers of the formation of Telangana state? The Congress which created the Telangana state was made redundant as its State President Uttam Reddy had to put in his papers after a poor show as they managed to win only two seats. Somehow, Owaisi managed to win forty-four seats as was his party’s tally in the last held Municipal Council polls.

But TRS came rolling down from a ninety-nine to a fifty-five as they would never anticipate this outcome in the wildest of their thoughts. A tactical seat-sharing understanding in these polls between the TRS and AIMIM was thoroughly exposed by the BJP in their rallies and campaigns. They continued playing dismissive of Owaisi as the B team of TRS by maintaining their charge against KCR’s TRS government in the state.

Corruption, nepotism and favouritism were some of the allegations levelled against KCR and his close family members and kin. Also, Shah was successful in showcasing how both Owaisi and Rao were promoting a Nizam culture which largely ignored displaying the faith and pride of the Hindus in the state. Yogi wanting Hyderabad to be called as Bhagyanagar arousing passions in the minds and hearts of the electorate.

As for refining a sense of courage and conviction, the voters had already made their judgements otherwise this kind of arithmetic couldn’t have been made possible. I don’t understand why the regional parties often repeat the same mistake of allowing the BJP to play on its pitch. Careless and casual attitude and approach have got no place in politics. Either you will have to perform or perish.

Don’t forget that community and caste politics have a shelf life and can’t be used more often. My sincere and humble advice to KCR is to get back to governance and put a full stop to pandering to propaganda and polemics as this will might cost you the 2023 assembly elections in the state. Don’t forget Owaisi is quick to adapt to any environment as he did in Bihar for the BJP by denting Tejashwi’s prospects.

Don’t underestimate the rising footprints of BJP in the state which they believe is their gateway to 2024 as Bengal became in 2019.

Anything is possible in political from now onwards as Shah and Modi have picked up canvassing support for the BJP in the district and Municipal council polls too. Interestingly making elections a close star-studded show of appearance, acknowledgement and appreciation
