The Roots Of Gender Discrimination Were Sown By Our Ancestors

Women in Nepal.

If we look around us, women are making progress in every field. Further, there are many programs going on that emphasize on empowering womenSo, let’s see how the plants of gender discrimination were sowed in our society, hundreds of years ago(much of this all happened knowingly and willingly, and some of these happened unknowingly).

“The time has come where we must make our world free of gender discrimination.” Representative image only.

Issue 1: In ancient times in India, the work of males and females were divided. This was just done to make things easier, not with the sight of discrimination. But as time passed, things went on to become discriminatory. This was one of the reasons why females lagged behind.

Issue 2: As time passed, education became a necessity, that was to be given to everyone. But here, people started sending their boys to school while their girl was still at home, managing the household. This is the reason why the female literacy rate is lower than that of males.

Issue 3:  Marriage is a universal phenomenon. When boys were made to study in schools, girls were made to marry. She was made to start married life at a very early stage of her life. After she is married to a person, her whole life was devoted to someone else, this is the big reason why she lagged behind.

Issue4: In the early times, little girls were made to feel ashamed by calling them ‘weak’ in all aspects. They were not given much attention that used to make their mindset really bad. This is the reason why most of our grandmothers do this with today’s little girls too.

The 21st century is going on, times have changed, so there is also the need to change people’s mindset about women. There should be a system in our society, where work, colour, habits, interests and behaviour of girls and boys are not divided. We are all humans, originated from a single place, then why differentiate and be partial in terms of gender?

The time has come where we must make our world free of gender discrimination.
