Opinion: The TMC Needs An Exercise In Calmness To Beat The BJP Wave

If Mamta Banerjee is to be believed then the Left might plan to hatchet a conspiracy to oust TMC from Bengal. Why should Didi think at all in this manner as for the effective services and resources of Prashant Kishor? A brilliant poll strategist who has been drafted for the successes of the electoral prospects of political parties like Congress in Punjab, AAP in Delhi, etc. At best, Mamta didi should have taken a back seat and allow things to take place at its own pace for her clarity, conviction, and confidence.

Mamata Banerjee’s TMC needs to exercise restraint and calm to fight the BJP in Bengal

But didi has of late started to look the other way round as for the mass desertion of TMC leaders, workers, and supporters into the BJP. Dinesh Trivedi, Rajyasabha TMC MP is the new addition in the list embarrassed by the sharp political turmoil affecting the pride and prestige of Bengal. Though it’s natural for politicians to switch sides and allegiances around electoral battles and contests what is happening in Bengal is far from being normal and natural.

Violence and vandalism have become an active feather of state politics after 2011 when the Left front government was ousted from the state. Abuse of authority and power becoming the new normal for staying reasonably relevant in the political chain of command as witnessed during the past few days and months with a spike in political assassinations and killings in the state.

Ruling TMC has taken turns to blame the ascendant Bhartiya Janta Party for vitiating the atmosphere of the state by holding contempt for the social, secular, and cultural ethos of diversity and pluralism denigrating it by challenging the faith of its very constituents. Jai Shri Ram has been thoroughly misquoted by the BJP to purposefully polarize the masses in order to target the thirty percent solid Muslim vote bank of the TMC.

For Amit Shah and JP Nadda, this can truly become BJP’s moment if their rhetoric resonates in the hearts and sentiments of the people. They can get to play both a victim and victor by bringing Mamta Banerjee on a backfoot and slimming her chances given the uncertainty of the situation and circumstances of these assembly elections are becoming anybody’s guess.

In my opinion, the Left can surely dent Mamta’s prospects given their hostility towards Mamta as she was the one utterly exposing them during the Nandigram and Singur crisis forcing Tata to shift their project to Gujarat. At best, Left cadres would tacitly side with the BJP denying Mamta a third term. A game piloted by the BJP to contain the leftists at their peak.

Whatever might be the case but Mamta didi should re-shape her strategies, skills, and strengths for checking the meticulous rise of the BJP in the state. At best, BJP can better its past presentations with a Left Congress combine playing a spoiler by dividing votes. A comeback for Mamta Banerjee is not that challenging as she clearly commands loyalty and obedience from a vast section of the state populace. Though a sizeable anti-incumbency against her government might reduce their tally making them fall short of a comfortable majority.

Rest, the field is open and wide.
