One Nation One Election Will Diminish The Voices Of Certain Sections In India

Recent days we must have listened about one nation one election. Our Prime Minister has repeatedly been emphasising on one nation one election as a necessity for development. He has asked the officers of the elected body to ponder over the idea of having one nation one election.

In India we have elections at various levels, we have Lok Sabha elections, Vidhan Sabha elections, Panchayat elections and many more. These elections are looked after by a body named The Election Commission of India (ECI). The ECI ensures the election is free and fair; it looks after the enumeration of votes and the constituency’s delimitations. The ECI also releases guidelines for the representatives contesting the elections.

India is a huge country, its population is nearly about 1.5 billion, 29 states and 8 union territories. It might be very difficult for the ECI to control all the things mentioned above if all the levels of the election were held at once. The chances of error in elections will be greater.

Also, the regular elections keep the government and all political parties in pressure. It creates a sense of fear amongst all the parties that people will punish them if they do anything wrong. If elections are held only once, many small matters of states, districts and community will be ignored. Only big matters will be raised.

Organising elections frequently will give every section of people to vote on the matters related to them. The regular election is very important in free and fair democracy like India. It makes people vigil towards democracy and their rights. This is the way by which people can show their power and ensures that people have the ultimate power in a democracy.
