“Ideological Differences Have Become Pretexts For Dislodging Elected Government’s”

Kiran Bedi

Smaller states are easier to gain and govern administratively and politically to win the support of the people. Puducherry is the latest illustration where the centre, after sacking Governor Kiran Bedi, effectively took charge of the state’s affairs. Later, declaring the president’s rule in the state, preparing fertile grounds ensuring its prospects.

Kiran Bedi was recently removed as the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry.

Toppling elected governments in states has become a reality of a regime having faith in post-poll rigging as a strategy for installing its puppets in power. Denying the completion of a full term to governments other than the Bhartiya Janta Party, as was highlighted in states like Madhya Pradesh, Goa, Karnataka and Manipur.

Ideological differences have become pretexts for suitably dislodging democratically elected government, as for money, mind and muscle strength episodically orchestrated by the central government. Impacting the federal objectives of sharing and conducting power between the union and states increasingly making the states suspicious.

In this view, the centre has been pitching for one nation one election as a guide and guarantee for capturing and controlling governance in states for authoritatively imposing its will on the people and party in power. Interfering with the review of social welfare schemes and measures aimed at ameliorating and advancing the goals and objectives of its constituents.

I see no merit in this proposal put forward by the Modi government, giving them the absolute agency to dismiss a government as per their conviction. How do we then define our democracy when at the very instance, we are being restricted from exercising our franchise as a dutiful citizen.

I am of the considered opinion that Modi Ji, in his endeavour of political power and profile, has sanctified ideology by depriving the idea of its skin. Accommodating autocracy and authority for internal expansion and external aggression
