Trigger warning: Mentions of rape

India is facing a growing rape culture. Every day, the country witnesses a rape case. The growing rape culture is a threat to the country. After all the incidents, one question arises in everyone’s mind i.e, “why men rape”There is no one reason why men rape, there are several. Let me explain them one by one.

India witnessed widespread protests in the aftermath of the Hathras rape case.

From my personal experiences, what I saw was that most, if not all men, viewed women as sex objects and objectified them. What is surprising there is that they think if women are comfortable with one guy, she will be comfortable with every other guy. And on that basis, most men judge women as a ‘whore‘ or a ‘slut‘.

I saw a video uploaded by The Quint on YouTube where they were asking numerous people why men rape and the answers were different but some answered that the people who are illiterates, lower caste, and belong to villages are responsible for rape.

Let me tell you, it is not like that, rape is an inhuman activity so we can’t judge a rapist based on religion caste, colour, and region.

On March 28/2021, A woman in IIT Guwahati was raped by a student. This is proof that rape has nothing with literacy.

Let me tell you more about why men rape. With the easy availability of pornography, some people from the country took it seriously and they didn’t know it’s scripted and approached women believing pornography to be reality. At the same time, men with several sexual thoughts turn to be violent beasts.

Ego may be one reason for rape.

Let me tell you that I don’t think clothes may be a reason for rape. If people think wearing short clothes attract a rapist then why was an 8-year old raped in Kathua. I think an unmatured girl doesn’t have anything which attracts men. And at the same time, it’s proof that the rapist has nothing with religion because Asifa was raped in a Temple which is nothing but the house of God, A holy and pure place.

Recently, we witnessed the Hathras incident which was inhuman and slap on our society as people tried to defend them because the rapist was from a so-called high caste. The way the government and mainstream media tried to defend them is a curse on humanity and democracy.

I will tell you why. According to NCRB,  In 2019, the country had recorded 88 rape cases every day and some of them got justice. Even for Nirbhaya, justice was delivered after years. Isn’t this delaying injustice enough for beasts to get a safe card, and at the same time many current government leaders protest in defence of rapists.
