Photo Story: Kolkata Rath Yatra In The Times Of Corona

In the light of the Covid-19 situation, the organizing committees of two famous Rath Yatras in West Bengal have called off the festivities and chosen to keep it a low-key event within the temple grounds

This is the second year that the Rath Yatra will take place on July 12 without any audience or followers.

In global headquarters in Mayapur, too, the annual festival has celebrated in a low-key affair, as just one tableau is taken out on the premises with around 50 people pulling it in turns

Rituals took place inside the Albert Road temple premises in south Kolkata.

ISKCON authorities had planned a mega celebration this year which coincides with the 50th year of the rath yatra in Kolkata, but those had to cancel because of Covid second wave.

Devotees were allowed to have sight of the idols from a distance and in accordance with Covid-19 regulations at the tent adjacent to the temple. CM Mamata Banerjee sent various items like Saree, Sweets, flowers for the deities.

Lord Jagannath, Balram, and Goddess Subhadra traveled in a convoy of 15 vehicles, comprising trailer-trucks, instead of chariots, on Monday accompanied by Pilot cars of the Kolkata Police

The annual rath yatra in Puri began on July 12 without devotees.
