Siddhu’s Gain Remains Incomplete Without Captain’s Favor

The curtains have officially been raised on the vast and diverse field of politics where discontent politicians rule the roost and Siddhu has finally been asked to hold the post of Punjab Congress Chief. His elevation may be disturbing a lot of other leaders but he remains comfortable at his ultimate accomplishment in state politics. Has he not surprised that by the favor?

Navjot Singh Sidhu has found a considerable amount of political backing in Punjab.

The legislatures kicked out opponents to put him up. Or when the party takes him safely to shore, the supporters punch the air with joy as he sets foot on political soil. He knows that, even though he succeeded in true ways. He feels the least chances of exile that sits practically vague. The detractors may think they have troubles with him but this is no longer a question and an objection that annoys backers, even more, no wonder.

With the nickname of Sixer Siddhu, he got his popularity in the field of cricket and later struggled to achieve a solid name in politics. Cricket or politics, which journey was a little longer for him? With the clear support of 62 MLAs, Navjot Singh Siddhu offers reverence to Golden Temple in Amritsar though he was desiring consent of as many as 77 legislators out of a total of 83 members in the assembly. It is being repeated with all that emphasis that he has ably shown his strength of support but the number must be including backing to the other four working presidents too.

His stunning backing prompts us to go to the One-day International cricket match against Australia at Chennai in the year 1987. At this venue, he debuted as an ODI player. Joining Kris Srikanth in the middle order, Siddhu fastened a 62-run partnership for the second wicket before Steve Waugh sent Srikanth packing to the pavilion. He, however, stayed and scored a 79-ball 73 runs hitting four boundaries and five sixes before Craig McDermott cleaned him up. That was indeed a cricket pitch.

Notwithstanding, he is not going to be thrown out on a political pitch after assuming the post of state chief after a few days. After two months of tussle, a remedy was sorted out by the party’s interim president Sonia Gandhi who was prepared to appoint four working presidents along with him. The critical difference between Chief Minister and State Chief might not look better for next year’s elections.

There seems to be a big gap of required coordination between them, as the case stands to be. The four leaders who have been declared working presidents of the Punjab Congress are: Sangat Singh Gilajiyan, Sukhvinder Singh Danny, Pawan Goel, and Kuljeet Singh Nagra.
