“Urbanisation causes rape”; “50 crore ki girlfriend”; “Dented and painted women”; “Hindu women should have between four and ten children”; “Real or fake, We can make any message go viral”.
The list of atrocious comments goes on. These aren’t comments made by your average guy online, openly making sexist/homophobic/racist comments using the internet. These are the comments made by people of power. People who were entrusted to make a difference that counts. For the betterment of every tax-paying individual.
Have you ever scrolled through your Instagram feed only to find your friends putting up stories about the latest controversy? It has stopped being about what is right at this point. It has stopped being about justice. Instead, it has just become a clusterfuck of blame games, “What about (insert irrelevant scenario from ages ago)?”
A bunch of irrelevant nonsense will blow over and everyone moves on with their lives with no tangible result. Everyone has forgotten that we are allowed to question the government. That is how a Democracy works. You are allowed to criticise the one you entrusted with your vote.
Speaking against the ruling party isn’t “Anti-National“. Questioning the decisions of one party doesn’t mean that you support the opposition.
As citizens of this beautiful country, we have the right to choose between the best amongst good options. Not lesser of a few evils. It’s no secret that every person in power is abusing and misusing it. Ultimately, it comes down to a simple point. This isn’t to ask everyone to press the button that says NOTA on the EVM. But we have to start seeing it as an option.
“If NOTA receives the highest number of votes, re-election should be held in that constituency with new and fresher’s candidate or that constituency should be ruled by the Governor. If NOTA receives the highest number of votes, re-elections should be held in that constituency.”
We deserve the choice between the better of the given options rather than the lesser of two evils. Fuck nepotism, fuck politicians who take advantage of the religious beliefs of the people, fuck politicians and leaders who exploit the caste system, fuck biased news channels who have forgotten what it means to deliver reliable news.
Choose leaders who will actually bring about a positive change irrespective of caste, colour, sex and religion. If you are unhappy with your choices, you have the power to change them.
