I Was Admitted To The Hospital For One Year And Here Is What I Learnt

When we see a smile on someone, it gives us relief. It knowingly or unknowingly put a smile on our face too. We all go through a lot but the main thing is to stay calm and find the solution rather than blame the situation. As every problem brings a solution with itself, all you need to do is look forward and watch your steps. Being kind to someone these days is rare because we think that they may be dramatising the thing and will find their way on their own. But caring or kindness is something that we shouldn’t forget.

Over the last few weeks, I’ve seen many parents losing their kids because of suicide. I personally don’t know any of them, but staying in a township where every other person is your family, it’s quite heartbreaking to see people leaving. After these incidents, I went through their social media accounts and realised that they were all struggling with one or the other mental issue, such as anxiety and depression. Their posts were full of self-motivation, as if they were trying to motivate themselves and others.

Now, talking about my story, I’m a person who, no matter what, sees the bright side of a situation. And I learnt this from my parents. A few years ago, I got hit by a migraine attack. Words can’t explain how painful it was. It felt like someone was drilling or hammering my head. I started smashing my head on the wall in an urge of relief, but I failed. After some time, I fainted. I was taken to the hospital, where the doctors said that I could have had a brain haemorrhage had I arrived a little later. The next day, when the doctor came and asked me why I had smashed my head, I only had one answer: I couldn’t bear this pain anymore.

I was admitted to the hospital for a year, where I had a lot of time to realise what had gone wrong, what could have happened, and why I did this. Then, I realised that issues will never end in our life, but ending our own life can end a few others’ lives. I was unconscious, but I’ve seen my family crying and praying for their little kid to stay alive. Ending lives might relieve the pain but it becomes tough for the person who stays alive with the memories. Every little thing reminds them about the person who is gone.

In India, more than seven out of 10 are suffering from mental illness. Despite so many laughter clubs, psychologists, meditation and health care options available in the country, four out of 10 end their life. Most of them are teenagers or young adults. Sometimes, people cry without shedding tears but we are so busy surviving our own lives that we fail to notice others’. We also fail to notice the beauty of our life as well as others’ around us. We forget to cherish our loved ones who stay with us no matter what.

And above all of this, we only have one life. Before showing kindness or care to others, it’s important for us to take care of ourselves, and stay happy and motivated.

Well, the reality is that we all have gone through or are going through a lot of issues, not only psychologically but also financial, personally or otherwise. People may stay but at one point, you will realise that only you are left with yourself. There you have to understand that no matter what, we should stay happy and self-satisfied because we never know what will happen the very next moment. Kindness to self is important because at the end of the day, all we want is happiness, peace and calmness.
