“It Will Work If You Believe In It”: My First Experience With Meditation

“Um, why is it not coming, should I stop?”

These were the first few thoughts which struck my mind after I had successfully meditated for almost 3-4 minutes, probably. I don’t know the exact period as I was trying very hard to focus and every second passed like an hour or so.

Before moving further, here is a little more info about me:

It was around 6 PM and I was watching a YouTube video by very well known Youtuber in India, Ranveer Allahbadia. The video was about his meditation journey and how meditation turned his life around. I had been planning to start meditation for a while but never did it consistently.

However, after watching that video, I decided to meditate.

I played a video from YouTube called, ’15- minutes guided meditation’, plugged my headphones in and and sat down on the bed in a cross legged position. It was a guided meditation and the voice in the video was very soothing along with that light background music.

Initially, I was not even able to sit straight and also couldn’t focus much on the voice. There were thoughts continuously going around my head about various things which had no relevance at that particular moment of time.

After a while, my mind started rejecting that practice but I tried and constantly told myself, “Just sit this time.”

After struggling for about 10 minutes, I started feeling a bit more relaxed. The session was over 5 minutes after and when I opened my eyes, I was surprised by how I felt no change at all, and this is what probably what your first experience would be with your 1st session.

However, you should remember one thing. “Though you didn’t feel anything significant, your first step has been successfully registered.”

You have to believe in it and not just think of it as a tool to achieve whatsoever you are trying to gain through meditation. I can surely say for myself that meditation is something which I wanted in my life and will continue to do everyday and I believe that eventually, it will end all my problems.
