“We Need To Read The Indian Constitution Every Morning And Evening”

Four children hold up a placard that reads, right to education.

“The constitution is not a mere lawyers’ document. It is a vehicle of life, and its spirit is always the spirit of the age.”

                                                                                                                                    – Dr BR Ambedkar

I am neither a sociologist nor an anthropologist, but thinking about changing the nation is mandatory. So, I read Dr BR Ambedkar and the constitution as well as other things to do with social justice.

In this regard, the concept of “annihilation of caste” came to my mind first. Next, to destroy the belief in the sanctity of superstitions and misguided beliefs. As per the Indian constitution, the principles in the preamble play a vital role in running our lives.

Caste is one the main reasons humanity is destroyed in the society. The  caste system is a major impediment to the development of Dalits in India, as well as other socially and educationally deprived communities.

For the above, the Indian constitution is the vehicle itself with which marginalised people can travel in the country with the dignity of life. Dr Ambedkar also felt that no social reform movement could be successful, unless annihilation of caste is made its principal objective.

The Right To Education

He did not believe in a violent overthrowing of the Savarna government in power. On the other hand, Gandhi ji held the view that mere abolition of untouchability would bring about the desired result.

The preamble itself is a framework of the Indian constitution where it says that the people must be able to live their lives without any discrimination; and with equality, liberty, justice and fraternity.

The most important thing is the liberation from unfair persecution, cruelty of the Savarna castes and the misery of the caste system.

Article 21(A) of the Indian constitution gives power to education. It says to provide free and compulsory education to all children in the age group of six to 14, as a fundamental right. Once there is a literate population, they will read the constitution gradually.

Thankfully, the Indian education curriculum has printed the preamble in the NCERT (National Council of Educational Research and Training) textbooks and has symbolically promoted the soul of the Indian constitution.

Graded Inequality Is Pure Evil

Today, the diversity in India shows a beautiful image, with its various cultures, traditions, languages and so on. But, the oppressor groups ruin the society with their opportunists ideologies, whereas the oppressed become more oppressed, even after 75 years of independence. There are elite intellectuals who are ruling the state.

The planks of mahatma Jyotirao Phule, which were social reform-based, such as the education of women and shudras, are vital aspects of the constitution. The dissemination of the light of knowledge, proposed by Phule, is reflected in the constitution as it advocates against the shackles of bondage.

So, the freedom to form and maintain one’s own opinions is at the root of the Indian constitution.

However, the personal humiliation and inhumane treatment will be abolished from society when we read the Indian constitution, and implement it on the ground. Graded inequality is the core evil of the society, where four main caste groups exist.

When the right to education came into existence, the upliftment of the marginalised started. If all the human rights have been made available by the Indian Constitution, then there is a need to read the Indian constitution every morning and evening.
