Have you ever seen a place that said they follow all the guidelines to make their surroundings inclusive to everyone? However, the actual situation is different from the image they are portraying of them.
We all say that we have to include everyone and give equal chances to everyone to explore and take the initiative to express themselves. Of course, this also fosters unity among ourselves. But the actual situation is different from this.
We may have all felt that sometimes we are alone and others take advantage of it. We haven’t felt included in a group of people. We have felt ignored because we can’t have that thing they have. This statement reminded me of my experiences when I was in school.
I don’t have any interest in playing table tennis, but my seniors are good at it. So one day, I asked to play with them. The seniors said that you’re not a pro in this and you don’t know about this game, how to play, how to handle the racket or ball.
That time they didn’t even try to play with me, and even then, I felt useless that I didn’t even learn a simple game. I was questioning myself and felt so ashamed of myself. Also, I couldn’t share that feeling with anybody.
I couldn’t tell my teachers how I felt after that and how they treated me. And I don’t think after experiencing anything anyone can bear it again in their life where they find themselves left or unincluded.
We understand the word inclusion, i.e., take everyone together without any bias, including culture, neighbourhood, accept everyone who came from different backgrounds, sex, age group, etc.
Let’s talk about why inclusion is essential. Do you have any guesses?
Inclusion needs everyone to develop social skills and learn how to make bonds and connections with others. It teaches us how to believe in everyone and build teamwork skills in a public spots or workplaces.
Also, we can see in the inclusion system we can develop so many skills like how we represent ourselves in front of others. Expressing ourselves builds self-confidence. Moreover, listening to each other’s perspectives also improves the balance of opinions.
Barriers In Fostering Inclusivity
- Insensitivity towards outsiders.
- Lack of communication
- Acceptance
- Uncomfortable in another place.
- Feel underconfidence
- Inequality
- Challenges for newcomers to settle down with new people.
How Can We Build An Inclusive Environment?
- Let people know about the importance of inclusion in their life.
- There should be policies related to inclusion in every institution.
- Hire people who come from diverse backgrounds.
- Appreciate each other for their efforts.
- Communicate with them.
- Include everyone in every plan.
- Listen to each other and respect each other’s perspectives, ideas.
In the end, I would like to conclude this topic here and let you know about how inclusion or an inclusive environment is crucial for us to live in this diverse society. Taking care of each other, respecting each other, and developing this policy in yourself, i.e., acceptance (accept everyone just the way they are) taking care of your surroundings. Spread positivity around yourself.
I hope this is beneficial to you and please share your thoughts as well.
