Time is an ongoing and continuous sequence of events that occur in succession. When young dreamers curiously asked about time travel, it becomes hard to explain to them the whole mathematics behind the concept. When we first learn about time, the first question we raise is whether time travel is possible. If so, then how one can bring that to our lives.
Time travelling is a mathematically possible theory that has been supported by many other theories that give ways of how we can time travel. However, when we think of the phrase ‘time-travel’, we usually think of travelling faster than one second per second. That kind of time travel sounds like something you’d only see in movies or science books.
Albert Einstein came up with an idea about how time works. In his most famous work on the theory of relativity that was published in 1905, he said that space and time are linked and move together in 2-D space. He described time as a sheet and said that when one places a heavy object on the sheet, a well-like structure gets formed. This is what the bending of space-time means.
Einstein added that nothing can travel at the speed of light. The faster one moves through space, he said, the slower the time becomes. This is provable through various experiments. The GPS satellites orbiting around the Earth experience a time delay. Scientists have to fix the time accordingly and if they fail to do so, it would lead to a vast change in how we perceive the GPS system from the Earth.
Although humans can’t hop into a time machine and go back to a particular year, we do know that clocks on airplanes and satellites travel at a different speed than the clocks on Earth. There are three ways in which we can travel through time in a warmhole. Sounds weird, right?
But many scientists rely on this concept with their own theories to travel back in time. The ‘Einstein Rosen wormhole’ or the string theory wormhole states that the wormhole has already been made and are attached with each other by a cosmic string.
This may sound like science fiction but scientists fail to explain string theory with experiments, and science is all about experiments and theory. Another way is by using a man-made wormhole using exotic matter or dark matter, about which we know almost nothing.
What if one goes back in the past to kill their grandfather? Do you think you would be born then? This phenomenon is known as the Grandfather Paradox in science. It states that if one tries to change the future by making some changes in the past, it would not work. This means that if one goes back in 2019 and tries to stop the pandemic from taking place, it would not work. The pandemic will arrive for sure in another way and changing the past will not affect the future. This effect is known as the bizard ball effect.
