From The Hijab To Inquilab: I Salute Muskan Khan’s Courage!

Muskan Khan surrounded by members of her family and a politician from Mumbai. Zeeshan Siddique gifted her an iPhone for her courage, for she stood up to right-wing youths who were heckling her.

Muskan Khan, a Muslim student in Karnataka’s Mandya, was heckled by a group of men wearing saffron scarves. She didn’t back off though, she stood up to them. This happened when she entered her college to submit an assignment.

Muskan: she is fire, not a flower!

“Allahu akbar!” (god is the greatest), is called the naara-e-takbeer (slogan of god’s greatness). The meaning of this is that the almighty is the supreme power. This belief is accepted in all religions.

What is meaning of chanting “Allahu akbar!” in response to “jai shree Ram!”?

A bell will ring in everybody’s mind when I give all these references over here because India witnessed one girl, named Muskan Khan, take on a group of right-wing youths.

Muskan is a student of B.Com (bachelor of commerce) second year. Most girls like her have been stopped from entering their colleges and schools, in several parts in Karnataka. She went to her college in Mandya, PES College, to submit an assignment.

As she parked her scooter to head to her college campus, all these goons surrounded her, mocked her for wearing a burqa, and tried to threatened her by chanting “jai shree Ram!”

Constitutional Values MUST Be Respected

The whole hullabaloo started when Muslim students wearing the hijab were banned from entering the Bhandarkar’s Arts and Science Degree College in Kundapur, a coastal town in Karnataka’s Udupi region.

Among all the social, economic and national issues we need to resolve, we have are focusing and welcoming this breach of our constitution instead. Due to various such incidents, the hijab may not be allowed in educational institutions.

Why are Muslim girls and students being forced to choose between their freedom of religion and right to education?

I think we need to train some people in how they should respect the Indian constitution and implement it. Some groups may not have read or respected the Indian constitution. Therefore, they don’t understand its values.

According to Article 25, every citizen has the freedom to practice and propagate their religion. According to Article 26, which gives citizens the freedom to manage their religious affairs, every religious denomination can exercise its rights in conformity with morality, health and public order.

The Assailants Are NOT Being Patriotic

All these controversies are part of a preconceived notion, which is  being spread using political agendas as it is election season.

Regrettably, such incidents take place in educational institutions where students are supposed to understand the real meaning of life and how they should serve their country.

Harassing a woman is not supported in any religion. The assailants are neither a part of Hinduism nor any nationalistic or patriotic group, in a true sense.

To me, them wearing saffron indicates that they don’t believe in the white colour, which is symbol of peace. Let me recount to you the menace they have caused so far:

Belittling The Name Of Lord Ram

It really miserable that they are misusing the name of one of the most widely worshiped, Hindu deities: shree Ram. He is a symbol of virtue and chivalry.

They are misrepresenting his name. If we read the Vedas or any other religious book, we will easily understand that women have been offered lots of salutations.

Here, I also would like to refer to Sita ji. She is a role model for millions of women. She possesses courage, chastity and righteousness. Every religion teaches us to revere women.

Every Woman SHOULD Dress As She Pleases

Modesty in dressing is a part of Indian culture. I want to give you  a couple of sweet and simple examples, such as:

The creation of a human is concealed in the womb of a mother.

Pearls are covered with the shells of oysters.

Just visualise: what would happen if nature couldn’t cover our internal organs with our skin?. How would we look? According to me, the hijab, jilbab, abaya, and other forms of veils, have always been a part of our culture.

Every woman has the right to dress as she pleases!
